Term Paper Outlines
Before writing your term paper, it is important that you create an outline for it. An outline enables you to plan, organize and present your ideas in a lucid manner. The outline is the backbone of your paper, the central structure that you then build upon with various details.

To prepare the outline of the paper, first decide upon the central idea. The next step is to decide upon the topics or points that will help you build and present the idea. These points will then form the paragraphs of your assignment. Once you have decided upon the points, you need to build the sub-points for each point. This can be better explained with the help of an example.
Let us suppose that the topic of the term paper is AIDS. The first step would be to introduce and explain the term “AIDS”. The next thing would involve discussing its causes, effects and prevention. In this example, the causes, effects and prevention will form the paragraphs. Once you have decided upon the paragraphs, you need to decide upon the sub points that will be needed to expand the point.
Again, using the AIDS example, let us take up the paragraph labeled “Causes”. Under this, we can list the sub points as, “infected blood transfer”, “unprotected sex”, and “used syringes” as the sub points. Follow the same procedure for the other points, or in other words, work out the sub points of the points. This way you will have the outline of the term paper as follows:
AIDS
Introduction
What is AIDS?
Causes
· Sub point
· Sub point
· Sub point
Effects
· Sub point
· Sub point
· Sub point
Prevention
· Sub point
· Sub point

After creating the outline, by listing the points and sub points, use them to write your essay. Finally, do remember to review them in order to ensure that you have listed everything that you wish to include.
